HOTEL SACKMANN – BAIERSBRONN
The historic town of Baiersbronn in the heart of Germany’s Black Forest has become one of the hottest spots for gourmet cuisine. The popular and still quaint and rustic natural resort of hiking and biking trails in the midst of rolling thick wooded hills now claims seven Michelin stars, spread out among three chefs. Baiersbronn has been the home base of two of Germany’s recognized best chefs, Harald Wohlfahrt at the 5-Star Hotel Traube Tonbach, and Claus-Peter Lumpp's Restaurant Bareiss, with three Michelin stars each, but the most recent celestial addition to the exclusive club is Jörg Sackmann, with his signature Schlossberg Restaurant at his family’s traditional 4-star Superior class luxury Hotel Sackmann, part of the association of Romantik hotels in Europe (see Wilden Mann Hotel Lucerne).
The Hotel Sackmann has been a feature of the former mountain glass manufacturing and farm town for several generations, with the original roadside chalet building growing over the years. The chef who grew up in family of hoteliers trained under the local master Harald Wohlfahrt before spreading his wings in Berlin, Munich and Baden-Baden before returning home to introduce his personal recipe of creativity and perfectionism to Baiersbronn. His inventive cuisine was dubbed Menu of the Year in 2002 by Gault Millau and he was named among the top 20 chefs in Germany in 2004. In 2011, the local chef began appearing as the regular guest television chef for the ARD Buffet morning cooking show from Baden-Baden.
The Romantik Hotel Sackmann makes for the perfect romantic discovery of the Black Forest region for connoisseurs of great food and natural outdoors. A relaxed and casual atmosphere in the crisp fresh air of the Murg River Valley. The rooms from deluxe to Junior Suite, in the original house and a newer hotel wing designed with a bit of Black Forest whimsy, offer pleasant generous size and home style furnishings. Most of the rooms offer views of the lush growth babbling river, or surrounding hills. Separated from the hotel itself are seven holiday apartments for longer stays or for families located in an apartment house with a large lawn set on a sunny south-facing mountain slope.
One of the holiday escape treats of the Romantik Hotel Sackmann is the wellness spa and massage complex, located in the labyrinthine floors below. A whole collection of special treatment rooms in spectacular other world design. Pamper the body and senses in the large swimming pool of changing colors, the Black Forest pine needle herbal whirlpool, or the sea salt Jacuzzi, and finish in the Finnish Sauna or the Roman-Irish Steam Room. The hotel offers a number of wellness and beauty packages for her or him. The spa and pool area has its own Champagne Bar (Sekt) with house teas and sweets. Relax after a treatment on the rooftop terrace in a lounge among the trees.

The Romantik Hotel Sackmann offers three restaurants, the elegant gourmet Mediterranean inspired Schlossberg, the Anitastube, featuring authentic Black Forest specialties and overseen by Anita and Reinhold Sackman, and the sunny Silberberg Restaurant. When the sun shines outdoors, try the Garden Terrace, the ideal spot to enjoy a strudel and coffee, or romantic candlelit Black Forest twilight meal. When the sun goes down, have a fresh draft of German beer or an exotic cocktail in the rustic and cozy open hearth bar. For foodies, Chef Jörg Sackmann even offers a couples cooking course, with demonstration of basic techniques and Michelin star professional tips, ending with sampling of several dishes, the perfect ending for a Schwarzwald holiday. And take home some of the Sackmann’s own Black Forest fruit jam. © Bargain Luxury Travel
