DE LA PAIX GENEVA
The Hotel de la Paix distinguishes itself with a modern interior design style of mood enhancing color schemes complementing the original Italianate architecture of columns and parquet. Upon entering from the bustling street side entrance, Bird of Paradise flowers in the lobby greet you with a splash of color in the formal atrium core reaching high above the chandelier. This cozy intimate ambiance along with a high quality of service should make for an unforgettable stay. The majority of the 84 rooms and suites on 6 floors at the Hotel de la Paix face the lakeside, with 55 rooms offering lake views and balconies, and 20 garden view rooms known for their size and modernly stylish decoration. Rooms looking out on the lake feature a water droplet motif suggesting a mood of rest and relaxation while the rooms overlooking the garden have a rose pedal theme. There are suites with one or two bedrooms, fifteen junior suites and the stunning Grace Kelly Suite named for the movie star who became Princess of Monaco.
For dining, the Vertig'O Restaurant at the Hotel de la Paix, despite its name reminiscent of a noted Hitchcock suspence film, located on the ground floor, is gaining a reputation as one of the best in Geneva with Gault Millau scores for Chef Jerome Manifacier’s inventive twist on traditional French and Mediterranean cuisine, and the Nobel Bar offers guests and inviting atmosphere to sit back and enjoy a selection of exclusive liqueurs and brandies, single malt whiskies, vintage wines or a fine cigar.
The Hotel de la Paix has been host to royalty, celebrities and political figures throughout its history and has been witness to major international historical events. In 1872 a banquet was held at the hotel to mark the end of the dispute between Great Britain and the United States over the warship CSS Alabama during the American Civil War. The Alabama was built in secret in Britain for the Confederacy and raided Union shipping taking 64 prizes before being sunk off of the Cherbourg by the USS Cherbourg. Britain paid the US 15 million in damages as part of a settlement negotiated in Geneva for violating neutrality in the settlement of the “Alabama Claims”. This marked the last wartime conflict between America and England and also set forward a movement for international law between nations. © Bargain Luxury Travel
