Luxury Country Inn Charm in the New Forest
The
Montagu Arms is a lovely wisteria and ivy vined historic
Four Star bed & breakfast
style luxury English inn. It is centered in the village which neighbors
the Beaulieu Estate, ancestral home of the Montagu baronial family
in the
midst
of the New
Forest National Park and now home to the National Motor Museum. The hotel
is one of the premier accommodation properties of the south coast, awarded
3 AA Rosettes for hospitality and comfort, and its Michelin Star Restaurant
is counted as one of the top 100 restaurants in the UK.
The area surrounding
the Montagu Arms Inn is steeped in history and the natural beauty
of the park, now mostly shorn of the trees of its mane. The Beaulieu
estate was taken from the lands of a former Cistercian Abbey dissolved
under Henry VIII, and the surrounding New Forest provided the oak for
sailing ships of the British Navy including the fleet of Admiral Nelson.
The ships were built and sailed from the estuary of the Beaulieu
River. In WWII the estate and surrounding land was home to the secret
base of the
Special
Operations
Executive school for spies and deep cover infiltrators into Europe
against the Germans occupation, working with resistance fighters.
The
Montagu Arms Hotel as it stands now has a 200 year history of catering
to discerning visitors. There has been
an inn on the location in the Beaulieu Village crossroads since the
lumbering and farming days of the 16th Century. Annual fairs were held
at the inn
since 1607. The original front façade of the building was demolished
in 1887 with a new construction incorporating the Monty’s Inn Public
Restaurant and in 1925 a new wing was added for more rooms, forming the
hotel as seen today. In both its exterior and interior the Montagu Arms
Hotel offers visitors a quintessential timeless English country house
charm and aristocratic
sophistication. Elegant original features including oak floors and wall
paneling, with old brick hearth fireplaces throughout the classic inn,

restaurants by the Daily Telegraph for its menu of dishes of the finest
local seasonal ingredients, complimented by an extensive selection of
excellent wine, champagne and cheese to please the palate of the most
discerning gourmet. For more casual dining, Monty’s Inn boasts
of the quant and relaxed atmosphere of a traveler’s pub, offering
