Take
the family on a holiday resort in the tropics or Caribbean without
ever leaving California?
Head to Oxnard. Yes, where the traffic slows
on the 101 Highway and the endless malls of Southern California meet
the sea coast. Mostly known for its world famous Strawberry Festival
and air show at Pt. Mugu, Oxnard is thought of as just another exit
on the California Coast Highway
on the way from Los Angeles up the coast to Santa Barbara, but there
is a tropical oasis to be found tucked away behind the sleepy agricultural
suburbia
of the largest city in Ventura County.
There
are very few hotels in
California that are actually on the beach. Some are above the beach
on a cliff, some around the corner and down the
street or

the property feels like an all year round trip to the islands. Golf,
water sports, scuba diving, whale watching are all nearby in decidedly
uncrowded and mostly undiscovered Oxnard, with its harbor that rivals
Huntington Beach farther to the south (but with lower prices) and cruises
to the Channel Islands only 14 miles out and outlet shopping 15 minutes
away in Camarillo.
The
Mandalay Beach Resort Embassy Suites Hotel offers spa salon services,
night lighted
tennis
courts, large swimming pool with waterfall motif,
fitness center, bicycle and boogie board rental, local airport shuttle,
complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast and a hosted evening happy hour
reception for hotel guests (that's free drinks friends!), though the
tab varies depending on the value of your room. A good excuse for the
Presidential
Suite. The award winning Capistrano Restaurant serves the most popular
Sunday Brunch on the southern central coast. The all-suites concept offers
good value for families, with many returning to the Mandalay Beach Resort
year after year, for one of the best vacation values on the California
coast. Special winter off-peak packages add extra value in the off-season,
and as anyone who’s seen the Rose Bowl on TV knows sometimes
